A key outcome of the CPMI has been a cluster of certificated public sector development programmes designed by Phil for various professional bodies, which are now an integral component of the Care & Health Ltd approach to radical and innovative change methodologies for health, social care, and local government.

Phil Barden’s recent publications including, ‘A New Prescription for NHS Performance’, Financial Management [2004], have caused substantial debate about the need to bring performance management under the control of front line staff.. His programme for Channel 4/Sky Business, ‘Turning the World Upside Down’ [2004], radically challenges accepted approaches to organisational performance in the public sector. His recent work ‘Structured Partnership Working’, to be published in March provides a project based approach to partnership working which will be supported by ‘groupware’ Dr Barden’s recreations are the martial arts – he is a black belt in both Judo and Karate, and Magic – he has pioneered the use of magic in schools to engage children in mathematics.
